Are the United Arab Emirates considered a westernised country in the Middle East? I noticed the very modern and western architecture and somewhat western ways of life.

- Yes, they are more westernised than you can imagine. You can classify them as hypocrats with money, loaded fools who think that this is their biggest strenghth. A modern architecture and Russian blondes in countless numbers hanging around, yeah you are right, it is western country.
- Read this article before you even CONSIDER visiting or working in Dubai: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html
- how is it a western country , it says Arab right in the name @Mr Natural , just because you quoted a link to an article in a known papers doesn't mean everything in it is true. Unlike you we live in Dubai and we know for a fact half of that stuff is not even true. But I don't have a problem if you do not want to come , it leaves more for us. Trust me we have no cactus, tumbleweed, or scorpions ... obviously the writer of that article had been drinking, and plagiarized some scenes from Clint Eastwood's "The good, the bad, and the ugly." into his article.
- just because a country has a decent selection of American and European stores, restaurants, etc does not make it "westernised" there is nothing western about the way of life here.
