What happened to African slaves in Arab countries?

There are sizable populations of African slave descendants in the Americas. But what happened to the millions of slaves imported over centuries into Arab countries? They don't seem to have left behind any ethnic trace. It's hard to believe they didn't have children. So, where are their descendants?

  1. everywhere suppose. such as Malcom X - he changed his second name to X cus he didnt wnat his slave surname as when slaves where transported across countries they took theire masters slave surname. but suppose most black africans in other countries such as usa or england have just different second names,. so ull never know!
  2. Some males were made eunuchs, so have no descendants. Children of slaves were born free; the children of African women and Arab men were full heirs to the fathers' status and property. This - and the fact that there was no attempt made to segregrate them - meant that African slaves were genetically absorbed into the general population. (Nothing new here - Roman-empire Italy was once 1/3 slave; their slaves were genetically lost in the general population, too.) http://www.arabslavetrade.com/
