What is the role of Arab newspapers and the Internet?

I've watched a film on September 11th, and I was wondering what the role of Arab newspapers and the Internet are in Arab countries. Thanks.

1. Some are governmental, some tow the party line and many in countries like Qatar, Lebanon or Egypt are free and have vigorous debates. The situation is better than in America where we are nominally free but in reality everyone tows the party line and there is no serious debate because the advertising corporate dollars disappear.
