Out Arab

Which newspaper in the UK will give me a neutral stance on the Israeli-Arab Conflict?

The Times? Guardian? Independent? I dont want to read anything pro-Israeli or pro-Palestine. Just something neutral and unbiased. What are your views? Why? What are you reading?

  1. Probably The Times. I read the Guardian, which is very well written but slightly left wing. The Independent will be strongly pro-palestine. The Times will cover it in less depth though. The Economist magazine, weekly, would be a good one to go for too, or the FT. Both are more expensive though.
  2. an unbiased newspaper in the uk. good luck with that
  3. to get a good picture of what is happening, you would probably have to read a few different accounts. i don't think there are any unbiased news papers left, if there ever were any to begin with.
  4. Independent. It's also what I read.
  5. Avoid the Telegraph or Daily Mail for right-wing bias You might want to avoid The Independent for left-wing bias I'd say Times for it's centre-right bias and the Guardian for it's centre-left bias buy both :o) I'm a Guardian and Independent reader, but I admit that both lean to the left - so I'd say the Times as the most centrist.
  6. there is bias in most british media outlets i agree with tooniron's assessment of our newspapers i'd give the independent a wide berth ....and the guardian too
  7. Your best bet is to read reports from a variety of sources rather than just taking the bias of any one media report for 'the truth'. It's a very complicated and bloody situation and you're not really going to get a handle on it without also reading at least some of the history of the area and understanding something about the roots of Zionism, the Jewish diaspora, the Holocaust, the foundation of Israel, Muslim fundamentalism, Hamas aims, Hezbollah, etc. I feel for the people of Gaza, the children and the innocent, but I have nothing but contempt for Hamas and their tactics. I believe in the necessity of a homeland for the Jews and the right of Israel to exist, and to defend itself. I've also read enough of the Hamas charter to be appalled at it's viciousness and blatant idiocy.
  8. The Times is owned by Murdoch, read the book 'Good times Bad times' by Evans the ex editor, no one would describe it unbiased after reading that. I read the Guardian, which is a 'liberal' paper but has many Jewish Journalists. It allows anyone to write articles for its 'comment' page, and I decided on It after seeing Enoch Powell, Tony Benn, and some right wing member of Thatcher's cabinet with articles on the same page. Look up resources from reputable newspapers on the net too.
  9. Honestly, you might as well chase the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow! I get the "Express" but only to give me an outline of what is happening, and because it has a brilliant crossword. If I wanted "a neutral stance" I would be better off with "The Beano"!
